Yesterday, the staff from Hotel Birger Jarl visited their project in Upplands-Bro municipality, where measures are being taken to help wild pollinators thrive.
Examples of these vital insects include wild bees, wasps, and butterflies, which enable seed-setting for a large portion of our wild plants as well as a significant share of our cultivated crops. Pollination is an ecosystem service and a fundamental function that safeguards our food production. The project was launched two years ago, and continuous management is required to ensure that biodiversity develops as expected. This autumn, we will be planting rowan and sallow, as they offer energy-rich nectar and pollen.
It is a tremendous project that Hotel Birger Jarl is financing, and they are helping to improve the opportunities for future generations to live a normal life without severe disruptions to food production. Without pollinators, food shortages are a certainty, and empty shelves in grocery stores would create absolute chaos.
We hope that those of you reading this will follow Hotel Birger Jarl’s example, because ultimately it comes down to what we want to pass on to our children and grandchildren.
